What is a holographic will and how does one create one?
Question: What is a holographic will and how does one create one?
Response: This type of testament, which is unwitnessed and handwritten, is legal in nearly half the states. From an administrative standpoint, it costs nothing and is efficient since all that is required is paper and pen. A legally-enforceable holographic will must be in the testator's own printing or handwriting. It is important that the testator properly date the will in order to prove that he or she was mentally-competent when the will was prepared. The testator must also ensure that the holographic will is legible and be as clear and specific as to whom and where he or she intends to transfer his possessions and money to upon death.
