Asset.gov contains a suite of services to facilitate project management, collaboration and community consultation. It enhances decision-making through streamlining the communication and operations associated with all types of projects to benefit project teams, stakeholders and the community.

Asset.gov enables a secure, virtual work environment for project teams to better coordinate activities and communication regardless of time or location. The real time nature of the Internet allows project teams and stakeholders using asset.gov to monitor progress and access up-to-date information including tenders and policy and perform issue routing and receipt of information including Requests For Information, to do lists, action items, discussion, reporting and defects lists. Communication and task allocation is trackable and auditable and operates through varying user privileges to improve the level of project accountability and responsibility for more efficient outcomes.

To facilitate community consultation, asset.gov can define workgroup access to form communities of interest for specific projects. The system enables the publishing of DA submissions, concept and design plans, 3D fly-throughs, images and photos, project progress information and feedback for the community to benefit and get involved. Because asset.gov is accessed through the Internet, the public can view all files without the need to load applications onto their computer systems.

The information on asset.gov is stored locally and managed centrally and is currently used to streamline a variety of projects, data, collaboration and learning. Help desk and support are also available for asset.gov users.

For capital works projects, asset.gov enables communication between client agencies, suppliers, community, contractors and design professionals through all phases of the project, from concept to completion. It encourages efficiencies through information transfer and delivery as well as shortened review and approval periods and provides better management of information that supports decision making, resulting in fewer errors.
Specifically, asset.gov streamlines projects through:

collaboration and communication via the Internet across different locations and time zones;
viewing and writing to the latest project information that is always current and where only one version exists; issuing, routing and receiving requests for Information, to do lists, meeting minutes, action items and discussions among other features;
editing and commenting through the ‘red-lining’ function that creates an overlay on the actual
document and is then archived while retaining ownership information; access and viewing of high definition spatial images over the Internet;

interactive 3D fly-through environments to get a better understanding of the finished product;
interactive sessions over the Internet;

access to all tender documentation, site correspondence, meeting minutes, action logs, work schedules, defect schedules, variations with audit trail and automatic notification.
