Attorney General Cox Names New Bureau Chiefs Detroit Asset Protection
michigan gov, Feb 25, 2005
Lansing, MI – Continuing to aggressively reshape the Attorney General’s office and advance his agenda, Attorney General Mike Cox announced today the individuals who would head his newly created bureaus of Consumer Protection, Child & Family Services, Criminal Justice, Economic Development & Oversight and Governmental Affairs.
Cox, who announced the reorganization of the AG’s office within his first week in office, has tapped a diverse group to lead the department. Two women, one an African-American, and three men will serve as Cox’s top-level managers. The bureau chiefs will report directly to Cox’s Chief Deputy, Carol Isaacs, making half of Cox’s top advisors women.
Heading up each bureau will be: Robert Ianni, Consumer Protection Judy Hartsfield, Child & Family Services Thomas Furtaw, Criminal Justice Deborah Devine, Economic Development & Oversight Gary Gordon, Governmental Affairs
“It’s a diverse group with varying backgrounds and one that I’m proud to say reflects Michigan as a whole,” Cox said. “Combined, this group represents well over 100 years of public service. Their experience will be an asset not only to me, but also the people of Michigan.”
In the process of looking for the bureau chiefs, Cox went through a vigorous selection process interviewing people from within the department as well as from the outside.
“The Attorney General’s office has made a name for itself by taking on consumer protection issues, and I’m anxious to build on that legacy,” said Cox. “With the reorganization of the department and strong leaders at the helm, we will lead the way to a new era in the Michigan Attorney General’s office – one that takes an active role in criminal matters, and protecting those most in need: our children and the elderly.”
